makes an extra large pitcher
1 1/2 cups dark rum (preferred : myers's original dark)
1 1/2 cups amber rum (preferred : bacardi gold)
1 cup orange juice, freshly squeezed
3/4 cup triple sec or orange-flavored liqueur (preferred : cointreau or patrĂ³n citrĂ³nge)
3/4 cup lime juice, freshly squeezed
1/4 cup almond syrup (preferred : torani)
1/8 cup simple syrup
1/8 cup grenadine
orange slices (for garnish)
pour all ingredients into an extra large pitcher. strain pulp from juice, if desired.
throw several ice cubes into short glasses and also into cocktail shaker. pour mai tai mixture into shaker, enough to barely cover the ice. shake vigorously.
strain and pour into short glasses with a lot of ice. garnish with orange wheel.
